The R9 200 series was based on the GCN (Graphics Core Next) 1.1 architecture and was manufactured using a 28nm process. It featured up to 2816 stream processors, up to 176 texture units, and up to 64 ROPs. The cards also featured up to 4GB of GDDR5 memory, running at speeds up to 5.0 Gbps.

The R9 290 and R9 290X were the flagship models in the series, featuring 2560 stream processors, 160 texture units, and 64 ROPs. The R9 290 had a base clock speed of 947 MHz, while the R9 290X had a base clock speed of 1000 MHz. Both cards had 4GB of GDDR5 memory, running at 5.0 Gbps.

The R9 280 and R9 270X were mid-range models, featuring 1792 and 1280 stream processors, respectively. The R9 280 had a base clock speed of 855 MHz and 3GB of GDDR5 memory, running at 5.0 Gbps. The R9 270X had a base clock speed of 1050 MHz and 2GB of GDDR5 memory, also running at 5.0 Gbps.

The R9 270 was a budget model in the series, featuring 1280 stream processors, 80 texture units, and 32 ROPs. It had a base clock speed of 925 MHz and 2GB of GDDR5 memory, running at 5.0 Gbps.

In terms of performance, the R9 200 series was a significant improvement over the previous generation. The R9 290 and R9 290X were capable of running the latest games at 1080p and 1440p resolutions with high settings and smooth framerates. The mid-range R9 280 and R9 270X were also capable of running most games at 1080p with high settings.

However, the R9 200 series was not without its drawbacks. The cards were known to run hot and consume a lot of power, which led to high temperatures and noise levels. They were also not as power-efficient as some of the newer graphics cards on the market. Additionally, the R9 290 and R9 290X had a reputation for being loud and hot, which led to criticism from some reviewers.

Overall, the AMD Radeon R9 200 series was a significant upgrade over the previous generation and offered good performance for its time. While it may not be the best choice for modern gaming, it still holds up well for older games or for use in a budget build.
