How long does a hickey take to form?

A hickey, also known as a love bite or a kiss mark, is a bruise that forms when someone sucks or kisses the skin forcefully enough to break blood vessels beneath the surface of the skin. The amount of time it takes for a hickey to form can vary depending on several factors, such as the intensity of the suction or kissing, the location of the hickey on the body, and the individual’s skin type and sensitivity.

Typically, it can take anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes for a hickey to form after the sucking or kissing has occurred. The mark may start out as a red or pink spot, and then darken into a purple, blue or brown bruise over the next few hours or days. Generally, a hickey can last anywhere from a few days to a couple of weeks before it fully fades away, depending on the severity of the bruise and the individual’s ability to heal.
