If you’re considering the iPhone SE 2020, you’re likely looking for a powerful yet affordable Apple device. This list covers the key features, benefits, and considerations to help you decide if this model fits your needs. Whether you’re a first-time iPhone buyer, someone upgrading from an older device, or on a budget but still want premium features, this guide will provide clear, detailed insights.
1. Compact Design with Classic iPhone Aesthetics
The iPhone SE 2020 features a 4.7-inch Retina HD display, reminiscent of the iPhone 8 design. Its aluminum and glass body offers a premium feel, and the size makes it easy to operate with one hand, which appeals to users who prefer smaller phones. The classic design also includes a Touch ID fingerprint sensor integrated into the Home button, providing a familiar and reliable way to unlock your device and authenticate payments.
2. Powerful A13 Bionic Chip
The device is powered by Apple’s A13 Bionic chip, the same processor used in the iPhone 11 series. This means exceptional performance for gaming, multitasking, and demanding apps, making it future-proof for several years. The A13 also enhances energy efficiency, contributing to longer battery life and smoother operation under heavy loads.
3. Single-Lens Camera with Smart HDR
The iPhone SE 2020 sports a 12MP rear camera that delivers sharp, detailed photos. It supports Smart HDR for improved dynamic range, capturing more detail in shadows and highlights. The camera also offers Portrait mode with advanced bokeh and Depth Control, allowing users to take professional-looking photos even with a single lens.
4. Wireless Charging and IP67 Water Resistance
Despite its budget price, the iPhone SE 2020 supports Qi wireless charging, adding convenience for daily use. It also boasts an IP67 rating, making it resistant to water and dust—up to 1 meter of water for 30 minutes—providing peace of mind against accidental spills or splashes.
5. iOS Updates and Ecosystem Integration
Buying an iPhone SE 2020 ensures access to the latest iOS updates, which bring new features, security patches, and performance improvements. Its integration with the Apple ecosystem means seamless connectivity with Macs, iPads, Apple Watch, and AirPods, enhancing productivity and entertainment experiences.
6. Affordable Price Point
At launch, the iPhone SE 2020 started at $399, making it one of the most affordable new iPhones. This lower price makes it an excellent choice for budget-conscious consumers who still want a device with flagship specs. The cost-effectiveness extends to its long-term value, as it receives software updates for years.
7. Battery Life and Charging
The iPhone SE 2020 offers approximately 13 hours of video playback, which is decent for a compact device. It supports fast charging—up to 50% in 30 minutes with a 20W adapter (sold separately)—and standard wireless charging, providing flexibility in how you power up your phone.
8. Storage Options and Connectivity
The device comes with 64GB, 128GB, or 256GB storage options, catering to different user needs. It supports dual SIM with eSIM, enabling easier international travel and flexible work setups. The inclusion of Gigabit-class LTE ensures fast mobile data speeds, even in busy networks.
9. Color Variants and Aesthetic Choices
The iPhone SE 2020 was available in several colors, including Black, White, and (PRODUCT)RED. These options allow users to personalize their device and choose a style that suits their personality. The color options also help the device appeal to a broad demographic, from minimalists to those who prefer bold statements.
10. Durability and Repairability
While the glass back adds to the premium feel, it also makes the device more susceptible to damage if dropped. However, Apple’s widespread repair network and availability of genuine parts make fixing common issues like screen or battery replacement more accessible and affordable compared to other flagship models.
How to Choose
When selecting a smartphone like the iPhone SE 2020, consider what’s most important to you: performance or camera quality, size or battery life, and budget constraints. The SE excels in processing power and software longevity, but if you want multiple lenses or a larger display, other models might be better. Also, assess whether features like wireless charging or water resistance are priorities for your daily use.
