The Originals is a popular supernatural television series that premiered on The CW in 2013. The show follows the Mikaelson family, a powerful clan of vampires, werewolves, and witches, as they navigate their complex relationships and confront their enemies in the French Quarter of New Orleans. The series is a spin-off of the popular show “The Vampire Diaries” and has been a fan favorite since its debut.
As for the question at hand, it was announced in 2021 that The Originals will be leaving Netflix in 2023. This news has disappointed many fans who have come to love the show and have been watching it on the streaming platform. While the news may be disappointing, it is not uncommon for shows to leave streaming platforms as licensing agreements come to an end.
Netflix is known for having a rotating library of content, with shows and movies coming and going on a regular basis. This is due to licensing agreements between the streaming platform and the production companies that own the rights to the content. When these agreements come to an end, the content may be removed from the platform. This is what is happening with The Originals.
While it is unclear why the licensing agreement for The Originals is ending, it is likely due to the fact that the show is owned by The CW, a network that is owned by Warner Bros. The parent company of Warner Bros, AT&T, is launching its own streaming service, HBO Max, and it is possible that they want to move the show exclusively to their platform to drive subscribers.
This is not the first time that a popular show has left Netflix due to licensing agreements coming to an end. In fact, this has happened with many shows over the years, including Friends, The Office, and Parks and Recreation. These shows were some of the most-watched shows on the platform, but they were eventually removed as the licensing agreements expired.
While it is always disappointing when a show leaves a streaming platform, there are ways for fans to continue watching the show. The Originals is available for purchase on various digital platforms, such as Amazon Prime Video and iTunes. Fans can also purchase the DVD box sets of the show to watch at home.
In addition, it is possible that The Originals may find a new home on another streaming platform in the future. There are many streaming platforms available today, including Hulu, Disney+, and Amazon Prime Video, all of which have large libraries of content. It is possible that one of these platforms may pick up the show and make it available for streaming once again.
In conclusion, The Originals is leaving Netflix in 2023 due to a licensing agreement coming to an end. While this is disappointing news for fans of the show, it is not uncommon for shows to leave streaming platforms. Fans can continue to watch the show by purchasing it on digital platforms or on DVD.
