The term “o7” is an internet slang term that has gained popularity in recent years. It is often used in online gaming communities, particularly in massively multiplayer online games (MMOs) like World of Warcraft, EVE Online, and others. The term is also sometimes used in military and veteran communities.
So what does “o7” mean? The answer is relatively simple: the “o” represents a head, and the “7” represents an arm and hand saluting. When typed out, “o7” looks like a person saluting. This is why “o7” is often used as a way to say “salute” or “respect.”
The origin of the term “o7” is somewhat unclear, but it is believed to have originated in the EVE Online gaming community. EVE Online is a popular sci-fi MMO that has been around since 2003. The game is known for its complex economy, intricate political systems, and intense player-vs-player combat. The game also has a rich and complex lore, which includes various factions and organizations, some of which are modeled after real-world military and political structures.
It is believed that “o7” originated as a way for EVE Online players to show respect to one another in-game. In EVE Online, players often form alliances and coalitions, which can be very complex and involve a lot of diplomacy and negotiation. When players wanted to show respect to each other, they would type “o7” in the chat or forum post. This was a way of acknowledging the other player’s skill, experience, or contribution to the game.
The term “o7” quickly spread beyond the EVE Online community and became popular in other gaming communities as well. It is now used in a variety of games and contexts, both in-game and in online discussions.
One of the reasons that “o7” has become so popular is that it is a quick and easy way to show respect or acknowledge someone else’s achievements. It is also a way of showing solidarity with other gamers or members of a community. In many ways, “o7” has become a symbol of the online gaming community and its values, such as teamwork, respect, and sportsmanship.
Another reason for the popularity of “o7” is its versatility. The term can be used in a variety of contexts and with a range of meanings. For example, “o7” can be used as a way of saying “goodbye” or “see you later.” It can also be used as a way of showing sympathy or support, as in “o7 to all the veterans out there.”
Some people have also started using variations of “o7” to represent other gestures or emotions. For example, “o/,” which looks like a person waving, is sometimes used as a way of saying “hello” or “greeting.” Similarly, “o>” is sometimes used as a way of saying “follow me” or “let’s go.”
In conclusion, “o7” is an internet slang term that has become popular in online gaming communities. It is a way of saying “salute” or “respect” and is often used as a gesture of goodwill or solidarity. The term originated in the EVE Online community but has since spread to other games and contexts. Despite its simplicity, “o7” has become a powerful symbol of the online gaming community and its values.
