Possum poop is a common sight for many homeowners, especially in areas with high possum populations. Possums are nocturnal animals that are known to visit residential areas in search of food and shelter, and their poop is one way to identify their presence.
Possum poop is usually cylindrical or pellet-shaped, with a length of about 1 to 2 cm and a diameter of 0.5 to 1 cm. The poop is generally dark brown or black in color, and it can be shiny or dull depending on the texture. Possum poop also has a distinctive odor that can help to identify it.
One of the key characteristics of possum poop is that it often contains seeds and undigested food particles. This is because possums are omnivorous animals that feed on a wide variety of foods, including fruits, vegetables, insects, small animals, and even garbage. As a result, their poop may contain seeds, pieces of fruit, or other identifiable food items.
Another way to identify possum poop is to look for signs of urine. Possums are known to mark their territory with urine, and their poop may be wet or surrounded by a wet spot. The urine may have a strong odor, and it may leave a stain on surfaces such as decks, sidewalks, or walls.
Possum poop is generally considered to be relatively safe and not a significant health risk to humans. However, it’s important to avoid contact with the poop and to take precautions when cleaning it up. Possum poop may contain harmful bacteria and parasites that can cause illness or infection, and it’s important to wear gloves and other protective gear when handling it.
Overall, possum poop is a common sight in many residential areas, especially in areas with high possum populations. It is generally cylindrical or pellet-shaped, dark brown or black in color, and may contain seeds or undigested food particles. While possum poop is not generally considered a significant health risk, it’s important to take precautions when cleaning it up to avoid potential exposure to harmful bacteria and parasites.
