The feature known as “star 67” is a call-blocking or call-display-blocking feature available on many North American phone systems. It allows a caller to block their caller ID information from being displayed on the recipient’s phone screen or call log.
When a caller dials *67 before the phone number they wish to call, their phone number will be blocked from being displayed on the recipient’s phone. Instead, the recipient’s phone will display “Private Caller” or “Unknown Caller” (depending on the recipient’s phone system) or simply show no caller ID information at all.
There are a few different reasons why someone might choose to use the *67 feature when making a phone call. For example, they may wish to protect their privacy or anonymity when calling someone they don’t know well, such as when calling a business or service provider. They may also use it when calling someone they know, but for whom they wish to maintain some level of privacy or discretion, such as when calling a potential employer or a romantic interest.
It is worth noting that while *67 can block caller ID information from being displayed on the recipient’s phone, it does not prevent the call from being traced or tracked in other ways. In cases where law enforcement or other authorities need to investigate a call, they may be able to access information about the caller’s phone number and location through other means.
In addition, some phone systems may not support the *67 feature, or may have restrictions or limitations on its use. For example, some businesses or organizations may have systems in place that automatically block calls from “unknown” or “private” numbers, or may require callers to provide caller ID information in order to reach certain departments or services.
Overall, *67 can be a useful tool for those who wish to protect their privacy or maintain some level of anonymity when making phone calls. However, it is important to use it responsibly and in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
