Another factor that can influence average height is ethnicity. According to data from the ONS, people of South Asian and Black African descent tend to be shorter than those of White British or White Irish descent. For example, the average height for men of Bangladeshi descent in the UK is 5 feet 5 inches (165.4 cm), while the average height for men of White British descent is 5 feet 10 inches (177.8 cm). Similarly, the average height for women of Black African descent in the UK is 5 feet 3 inches (160.7 cm), while the average height for women of White British descent is 5 feet 4 inches (162.5 cm).
Socioeconomic status can also have an impact on average height. Research has shown that people from higher socioeconomic backgrounds tend to be taller than those from lower socioeconomic backgrounds. This is thought to be due to factors such as better nutrition and healthcare.
Overall, the average height in the UK varies depending on a number of factors such as age, gender, ethnicity, and socioeconomic status. However, the average height for adult men is 5 feet 9 inches (175.3 cm) and for adult women is 5 feet 3 inches (161.6 cm).
