What year did slavery end?

The year that slavery officially ended depends on the country or region in question. In the United States, slavery was legally abolished with the passage of the 13th Amendment to the US Constitution in 1865, which was ratified on December 6 of that year. However, it is important to note that even after the end of legal slavery, discrimination and inequality continued to persist for many years through various forms of segregation and institutional racism.

In other parts of the world, the timeline for the abolition of slavery varied. For example, slavery was officially abolished in the British Empire in 1833, while Brazil was the last country in the Western Hemisphere to abolish slavery in 1888. However, forms of forced labor and human trafficking still occur in various parts of the world today.
