Delightful Meringue Christmas Trees

These meringue Christmas trees are light, crisp, and melt-in-your-mouth sweet. Topped with colorful sprinkles and edible glitter, they not only taste delightful but also serve as eye-catching decorations for your holiday table.

Ingredients

  • 4 large egg whites
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • Green food coloring (gel preferred)
  • Edible glitter or sprinkles for decoration
  • Chocolate or candy melts for ‘tree trunk’ (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 200°F (93°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Make the Meringue: In a large mixing bowl, beat the egg whites and cream of tartar using an electric mixer on medium speed until soft peaks form. Gradually add sugar, continuing to beat until stiff peaks form and the mixture is glossy. Stir in vanilla extract and a few drops of green food coloring until desired shade is achieved.
  3. Pipe the Trees: Transfer the meringue to a piping bag fitted with a star tip. Pipe small tree shapes onto the prepared baking sheet, making the base wider and narrowing towards the top. Create swirls to give them a tree-like appearance.
  4. Bake: Bake the meringue trees for about 1.5 to 2 hours, or until they are completely dry to the touch and can easily lift off the parchment paper. Turn off the oven and let them cool inside with the door slightly ajar.
  5. Decorate: Once cooled, decorate the meringue trees with edible glitter and sprinkles. If desired, melt chocolate or candy melts and dip the base of each tree for an added touch.
  6. Serve: Arrange your meringue Christmas trees on a festive platter and enjoy the compliments!
