The Twin Towers of the World Trade Center were two of the tallest buildings in the world when they were completed in 1973. The towers were located in Lower Manhattan in New York City, and were a symbol of the city’s economic power and resilience.
The towers were identical in height, each standing at 1,368 feet (417 meters) tall. They consisted of 110 floors each, with the observation deck on the 107th floor of the South Tower and on the 110th floor of the North Tower. The construction of the towers was a major engineering feat. Despite their impressive height and innovative design, the Twin Towers were tragically destroyed in the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. Hijackers from the terrorist group al-Qaeda flew two commercial airplanes into the towers, causing them to collapse within hours.
The loss of the Twin Towers was a significant blow to the city of New York and the United States as a whole. The attacks resulted in the deaths of nearly 3,000 people, including civilians, first responders, and airline crew members. In addition, the destruction of the towers had a significant economic impact, causing billions of dollars in damages and disrupting the global financial markets.

The new One World Trade Center, also known as the Freedom Tower, was completed in 2013 and stands at 1,776 feet (541 meters) tall, making it the tallest building in the United States. The site also includes several other buildings, a memorial and museum, and a transportation hub, all of which serve as a testament to the city’s resilience in the face of tragedy.
